DJ D-Struct -

D-Struct, born Alexander Newman, has always had deep roots in music. From playing drums in a rock band, to singing in the Family gospel group, and now mixing music on turntables, D-Struct is always involved in musical projects. His ventures have brought him to pursue a career in urban arts producing quality music.

D-Struct started out early at the age of 4 playing a snare drum and learning basic drum techniques. At the age of 8 he got his first complete drum set. At the same time he also began lessons for basic music theory and the piano. With all this experience D-Struct started a band with his friends, Under The Bridge doing shows in his hometown of Eau Claire, WI. The bands major influences were Rage against the Machine, Korn, and Bush. After time each member's life began to lead separate ways and the band discontinued.

Early in 2002 D-Struct started to listen to electronic music of artists like Paul Van Dyke, Paul Oakenfold, and Blank & Jones. After venturing to the Love Parade in 2002 he decided that djing was his calling. That same year he acquired his first set of turntables and began mixing house and trance music.

In 2003 D-Struct gained his fist residency at Evolution, In Eau Claire, WI. He opened for DJ Kartel, and was playing all genres of music from electronic to Hip Hop. Moving into 2004 D-Struct began mixing around the UW Eau Claire Campus, and for events sponsored by the students, quickly becoming a highly requested DJ in the area. Also in 2003 D-Struct Joined a new band, Blind Child, scratching in the background and spinning hip hop at dances and other functions the band was hired to play at.

 

Minneapolis, MN

In 2004 D-Struct moved to Minneapolis to pursue a degree in Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature. D-Struct will be graduating in December 08 after four in a half years at the University of Minnesota .

From 2005 - 2007 D-Struct gained a large following on the campus spinning some of the largest house parties over the two years. D-Struct also spun multiple shows in Madison and the Madison area at such venues as the Kings Club, Cue Nique including new years, The Court House and other venues. Also in Eau Claire, playing at the stones throw, and House of Rock to name a couple bars. At the end of 2006 he and the rest of the On Point Production crew formed Speakerboxx Djz. Currently in 2008 D-Struct am finishing up school and he is interning with the local production and dj crew Sound In Motion. He has progressed immensely over the past 3 years honing my skills and musicality, learning to using midi controllers and music production techniques. D-Struct Currently spins a variety of genres at request, he prefer dirty electro/ electro break and psytrance.He is also know for his mix and mash antics in-conjunction with Serato.
